Using harsh chemicals around your home isnít always the best way to clean. Thereís a natural substance that you probably have right in your kitchen thatís perfect to clean the kitchen and every other room of the house. This substance is vinegar. Here, weíll give you all the ways that you can use vinegar to clean up even the toughest of dirt in and around your home. Bathroom You can pour a cup of vinegar right into the toilet. You can let the vinegar sit overnight. If the toilet is really in bad shape, you can add baking soda or borax to use as an abrasive scrubbing agent. Once you scrub, flush, and notice how clean your toilet is! Vinegar is also great for cleaning the drain in the tub. You can also use vinegar straight or diluted for general cleaning around your sink and shower, as vinegar works wonders on soap scum. One great tip to get rid of hard water is to use vinegar on your shower head. Fill a plastic bag with vinegar and tie it around your shower head so that it is submerged. Let it sit overnight and remove the bag the next morning. Let the water run for a few seconds and youíll have a much cleaner shower head! Kitchen When youíre working with food, why would you want to use toxic chemicals around the kitchen? You can wipe up spills in your fridge with a mix of water and vinegar. You can also use vinegar to clean countertops, cutting boards, your microwave and plastic containers. Just be sure to rinse everything after you use the vinegar for a cleaning job well done. Bedroom You can actually use vinegar to disinfect your mattress. Create a mix of rubbing alcohol, vinegar and some tea tree oil. Place in a spray bottle and spray on your mattress to help rid your mattress of dust mites, mildew and other odor causing bacteria. Once it dries, vacuum your mattress and it will be like new. Wood Furniture and Hardwood Floors Mix vinegar with olive oil to clean wood. You can add lemon or orange if youíd like a fresh scent. This will help to clean and maintain your wood furniture and floors. Carpets While you need to test your carpet for colorfastness, vinegar is a great substance to condition your carpets. You can mix vinegar with an essential oil for scent and spray on the carpet to get rid of dust mites. Cleaner Laundry Did you know that you can use vinegar as a fabric softener? By adding a cup of vinegar to the last rinse cycle, your clothes will come out soft and clean. These green ideas are perfect for your green home. Itís inevitable that you will have just cleaned your carpet and suddenly, someone will spill something on it! The most important thing to know about stains is that the longer they sit in a material, the harder they are to get out. Thereís different methods that tend to work better for different kinds of stains on carpets. When you know what to do to clean a stain, the next time a spill occurs, youíll know exactly how to clean it up. 



Food Or Drink Stains


when the spill occurs, youíll need to start by getting what you can up from the carpet using a paper towel and something to help scrape up the remains of the item like a paper plate. Then, use a clot to blot over the stain with warm water. If the spill is liquid, youíll need to try and absorb as much of it as possible. Press down firmly with a cloth and/or a paper towel to pick up the remains of the stain. Hopefully this will all that needs to be done, but most likely, youíll need to clean the area more thoroughly.  


For more stubborn food and drink stains in your carpet, make a solution using one part non-bleach laundry detergent and one part warm water. Apply to the stain and let it sit for around 5 minutes. Then, rinse again with warm water. Make sure that you get all of the detergent out of the carpet. Residual detergent could cause more permanent staining to the carpet. 


Pet Problems


The same procedure used for food and drink stains applies to pet stains. You need to scoop up any residue and blot the stain. You can use the same simple detergent solution thatís mentioned above to remove the stain. After the stain is removed, add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar to warm water. This is used to neutralize the odor. 


For any type of liquid stain, along with the solutions used to clean up solid stains, itís really important for all excess moisture to dry completely. If stains arenít dried, mold and mildew could result. Following clean-up, vacuum the area to return it to normal. 


Nail Polish


Nail polish is actually simpler to remove than you would think. First, get rid of the excess nail polish that may be on the carpet with a rag or paper towel. Blot well. You can use nail polish remover right on most carpets. Do this with caution however, as some carpets can lose color when nail polish remover is applied. Test a non-obvious area of the carpet for colorfastness. If you do find that the carpet loses color, youíll need a professional to help you get the nail polish stain out of the carpet.

Often times, certain cleaning rituals are saved for spring-cleaning, certain cleaning rituals that should occur more than once a year. One of those things that fall into this category is your refrigerator. You open your refrigerator, stare into it trying to find something to eat or drink, find that something or not, and then close the fridge. This happens multiple times a day, but how often do you go into your fridge with intentions of cleaning it out? And by, ďclean it out,Ē I donít just mean to toss the nearest thing to you that looks like it morphed into a creature inside of your tupperware. A refrigerator needs a good cleaning every couple of months to avoid any unwanted stenches, difficult clean ups from unknown spills, and expired food/drinks. Here are a few tips to keeping your refrigerator clean: Go Through Every 2-3 Months: Go through your fridge every two to three months. Itís so easy to lose track of what is in your fridge, from throwing leftovers in, to fruit and vegetables, and eggs and milk. And donít forget about your freezer. Check for food that is no longer any good or has past best buy dates and anything in your freezer that looks freezer burnt and throw it away. Wipe down Every 2-3 Months: When you are cleaning out old food from your fridge, take the time to wipe it out too. Spills can happen without you knowing and can leave your fridge sticky, slimy and even stinky. By wiping your fridge out every so often you can avoid those issues. Rotate: After going through the items in your refrigerator and freezer, make sure to rotate any duplicate items. Rotating means to put the oldest item in the front so that you use that one first. This will help ensure that you are eating foods and drinking drinks before they go back therefore causing less waste. This will also help you save money in the long run.
